OCA Alliance members announce several new AES70-enabled products for InfoComm 2024

The OCA Alliance, champion of the AES70 standard for Open Control Architecture, is pleased to announce several new AES70-enabled products ahead of the 2024 edition of InfoComm at the Las Vegas Convention Center this June. Equipment from d&b audiotechnik and Adamson Systems Engineering swells the ecosystem of AES70-enabled products, continuing the adoption of standards-based flexible, unified control.

Specifically, d&b has incorporated AES70 support into their 5D, 40D, D40 and D90 amplifiers as well as their DS100M network-driven Milan-enabled processing platform for Soundscape, while Adamson has launched VGt, a peak performance large-format line array loudspeaker, the first member of the new Vergence Group. VGt is a self-powered unit that includes an intelligent networked DSP endpoint supporting Milan digital audio and AES70 control data. Adamson and d&b will both be exhibiting at InfoComm on stands #C9547 and #C9421 respectively. Additionally, d&b has a demo room at #N103.

“Interoperability and system integration based on open standards such as AES70/OCA are important prerequisites for d&b to maintain and further develop the future system infrastructure and communication control and monitoring within the proven d&b workflow, hardware and software tools,” says Wolfgang Schultz, d&b’s Head of Product Management Electronics & Software.  Ethan Wetzell, Platform Strategist, Bosch Communications Systems and Marketing Chair for The OCA Alliance adds, “AES70-2024 provides several missing pieces for media networking solutions and elegantly solves a number of challenges in the system control domain.”

In addition to d&b and Adamson, a number of other OCA Alliance members will be present at the show – Bosch, Dynacord, Electro-Voice, and RTS can be found on booth #C8901 and FBT Elettronica S.p.A are just a couple of aisles away on away on booth #C9335. Furthermore, OCA specialist Matt Hardy from Deuso will be in attendance for any specific questions you may have. If you’d like to set up a meeting with him, you can contact us at info@oca-alliance.com.

OCA Alliance presents new products and AES standard update at ISE 2024

ISE 2024 is set to be a busy show for the OCA Alliance with exciting news of new products from member companies, new presentations from technical experts, and a new update to the AES70 control standard. Throughout the show, the OCA Alliance will be demonstrating the benefits and possibilities of an open public control standard at booth #7G400 in Hall 7 at the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona.

On hand during the show will be representatives of member companies showcasing products and solutions that support AES70. Software, hardware, finished products, and development platforms will all be on offer, highlighting the vast OCA ecosystem of AES70-supporting technologies from all areas of the industry. For integrators, developers, and users alike, these demonstrations will highlight the flexibility, ease, and opportunities that open public standards bring to product development and system design.

Education is also a tentpole of the OCA Alliance booth, and industry experts will be on hand throughout the show for discussion. In addition, the OCA Alliance will be providing regularly scheduled presentations throughout the show on topics such as technology overviews, developing products with AES70, and the latest updates included in the newly published AES70-2023 standard. These presentations will be held at 11:00, 13:30, and 16:00 on each day of the show.

OCA Alliance announces publication of AES70-2023 core standards

The OCA Alliance is pleased to announce that the AES has formally published the latest update to the AES70 suite of standards for control and monitoring of devices in professional media networks. Making up the core standards, AES70-1, AES70-2, and AES70-3 form the foundation of the AES70 standard. AES70-2023 represents a significant advancement, bringing in a wave of new features and improvements. Fully backward compatible with all existing AES70 devices, a major focus has been on improving the understandability of the specification with revised, expanded documentation, more precise language and ten informative annexes to assist developers.

The update also extends its connection management architecture with better support for redundant network connections and a clearer organization of functions. There’s flexible support for connection negotiation and media transport sessions and this update sets the stage for the upcoming adaptations for media networks including AES67, ST 2110-30 and MILAN™.

AES70-2023 also defines various types of datasets such as media files, logs, parameter files, and executables, allowing manufacturers to define custom dataset types as needed. This extends to command sets and stored parameters. Devices can store predefined executables and operating parameter values for immediate or later use.

AES70-2023 is a thoughtful update that both enhances the standard’s usability and flexibility while expanding its capabilities to meet the dynamic needs of professional applications. This encompasses networks of all sizes including mission-critical applications, high-security applications, IP and non-IP networks, and local and wide-area applications. AES70 can control real or virtual devices located on premises or hosted by cloud services, consuming little computing power or network bandwidth.

OCA presents at AES Fall Convention 2023: Connection management in AES70-2023

As part of the comprehensive schedule of papers and keynotes to be presented at the forthcoming AES Fall Convention 2023 in New York, Jeff Berryman from the OCA Alliance will present a session on connection management in AES70-2023 on Friday 27th October.

This session will explain how the new features of AES70-2023 – due to be released Q4 2023 – can be used to manage connections of three popular media transport schemes:

  • AES67, the AES standard that defines high performance Audio-over-IP interoperability
  • SMPTE ST2110-30, derived from AES67, that defines the elementary essence transport of video, audio and associated data over IP networks (especially relevant for the broadcast community)
  • MILAN, an AVB-based media transport specification from the AVnu trade association

The presentation will cover an overview of the architecture of AES70, including:

  • members of the AES70 standards family, in particular AES70-21-2023 and AES70-22-2023
  • Network Application Control (NAC), the AES70-2023 general model for networking
  • Connection Management 4 (CM4), the AES70-2023 general connection management model
  • using CM4 for AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110-30 connection management
  • using CM4 for MILAN connection management; and using CM4 for other media transport schemes

“We’re excited to present the latest updates to the AES70 standard at the AES Fall Convention,” says Bosch platform strategist and OCA marketing chair, Ethan Wetzell. “Connection management is a hot topic right now, and we’re pleased to present how AES70’s powerful connection management features are being extended to three of the most universally adopted transport technologies, namely AES67, ST 2110 and MILAN. This development will help to broaden the adoption of AES70 as the industry moves increasingly towards integrated workflows.”

The 60-minute session on connection management in AES70-2023 will be held on October 27, 11:30am, room 1E11. For further information and to register please see here.
