OCA Alliance welcomes NDI as a member

The OCA Alliance is very pleased to welcome NDI as a member to the trade association. An Industry leader in audio, video, and metadata media networking, NDI offers a broad portfolio of software and technology solutions. Offering high-efficiency, plug & play, and interoperable tools, NDI is adaptable to the smallest to largest of media networking applications—and everything In between.

“Joining the OCA Alliance marks a significant leap forward in the standardization strategy for metadata in NDI. It is also a tremendous pleasure to collaborate with such brilliant minds as the creators of AES70,” says NDI Technical Director, Roberto Musso. “I look forward to the opportunity to publish the guidelines for AES70 over NDI soon.”

“NDI truly needs no introduction, and the OCA Alliance is thrilled to welcome them to our membership,” notes Ethan Wetzell, OCA Alliance Marketing Chair. “Not only is it a vote of confidence in the standard to have NDI participating, but it is also proof that AES70 is not just for audio—if it’s connected, AES70 can help. We look forward to working with the team.”

OCA Alliance sees new products and wide-spread adoption of AES70 at ISE 2025

The OCA Alliance has attested to a rousing ISE 2025, full of new implementations and products and a broader industry embrace of open public control standards. A long-time exhibitor at ISE, this year’s record-setting attendance brought with it massive enthusiasm for media networking and technologies that can extend the value of existing technologies—and it is here that the AES70 standard was prepared to answer the call.

“This was a fantastic year for AES70 at ISE,” reports OCA Alliance Marketing Chair, Ethan Wetzell. “We saw several new products and implementations of the standard—some of which we knew were coming, but several of which were surprises. And that’s really the benchmark of success for a technology like this—when the industry begins to pick it up and implement it independently, that’s a ringing endorsement.” .

Throughout the show, members of the OCA Alliance were on hand to showcase and demonstrate options for commercial hardware, software controllers, hardware and software reference designs, and discuss the standard’s latest additions. Of particular interest this year were AES70’s connection management adaptations, that allow the configuration of media networking routing and connection paths for technologies such as MILAN™ and AES67.

On the Wednesday of the show, the OCA Alliance and the Audio Product Development Association (APDA) cohosted a developer meetup to introduce product creators to the AES70 open control standard and directly connect these creators with solution providers. The event was standing room-only as attendees saw and discussed options and advantages for incorporating a standards-based control and media networking connection management technology into their products. “The meetup was a truly wonderful event and it was a pleasure to partner with the APDA to connect solution seekers with providers,”notes Wetzell. “AES70 has always been about providing solutions—those that can speed time to market, reduce engineering overhead, and create a whole that Is greater than the sum of its parts—and ISE 2025 was a perfect venue. There’s a definite momentum here, and we can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store!”

OCA Alliance celebrates the release of AES70-2024

The OCA Alliance, the trade association supporting the AES70 standard for Open Control Architecture, is pleased to announce the public availability of the latest revision of the standard, AES70-2024, which introduces several valuable additions. Along with new classes, the update features new methods, a new specification for using the OCP.1 protocol, and several documentation updates.

Fully backwards compatible with existing implementations, AES70-2024 continues to expand the technical foundations of the growing and evolving OCA ecosystem. Summaries and overviews of the most recent additions to the standard can be found on the OCA Alliance website: https://ocaalliance.com/latest-updates/.

“AES70 is very much a living and evolving standard, and we are grateful to the developers and contributors who continue to support and expand it,” says Ethan Wetzell, Marketing Chair for the OCA Alliance. “As media networks expand in relevance and complexity, the ability of AES70 to grow in parallel to offer new components and solutions enhances the value for developers in combining standards and technologies to create holistic solutions.”

T&M Media Join AES70py as Gold Sponsors

AES70py, a development project for a MIT licensed AES70 Library for the Python Programming Language, is pleased to welcome support from Gold Sponsor T&M Media Pty Ltd.

During the IBC Show Matt Hardy, AES70py project representative, presented a Certificate of Recognition for the generous contribution from T&M Media. “We are very grateful for the financial contribution which essentially kick-started the project’s vision to make a meaningful contribution to the IT and Pro Audio industries.” says Matt Hardy.

The Python Library will be freely available to Python Engineers tasked with integrating software and hardware on IT systems networked with OCA Devices. Matt Hardy points out that “engineers use Python extensively in systems where things as simple as responding to a network event can present blockers when bridging to OCA devices with AES70. If native control protocols for AES70 are available in Python, it becomes a lot easier to extend existing networked systems natively into the modern Pro Audio control and monitoring realm.”

Mark Lownds of T&M Media says, “We’re supporting the MIT project because we see a Standards approach to infrastructure-focused technology as key to building robust systems which deal with audio and data simultaneously. The AES70 Standard presents the kind of continuity we need in decades-long life cycles of control and monitoring equipment and software deployments alike.”.

The AES70py project is ongoing, with proof of concept initially presented at this year’s Infocomm in Las Vegas. For more information about the project and the developers or how to get involved, https://aes70py.org/
