Alliance promotes new control initiatives at InfoComm : member companies expand the OCA ecosystem with new products

OCA Alliance, Bothell, Washington, USA. The OCA Alliance is promoting the vision of common, open standard, real time network control at infoComm15. The alliance’s booth – # 211 – will feature a live demonstration of control and monitoring across networked audio devices from different manufacturers with different transport protocols, including OCA enabled products from Bosch Communications, d&b audiotechik and Focusrite. Leading technical and product specialists from the alliance will be available on the booth to provide information to, and answer questions from, visitors and exhibitors.

Open Control Architecture (OCA) – due to be ratified as an official AES standard – is a language that enables the common real time remote control and monitoring of audio networks, using any available transport protocol (Dante, AVB, AES67, Cobranet, etc.). During InfoComm the OCA Alliance will discuss new projects currently in development for lightweight implementation of OCA in smaller embedded devices and to investigate ‘discovery’ standardization.

New OCA enabled products are being launched at InfoComm by member companies, including the installation focused d&b audiotechnik 10D and 30D amplifiers, and the Bosch PRS-4OMI4 OMNEO interface; providing OMNEO and OCA connectivity to the Praesideo voice alarm system and DCN multimedia conferencing systems.

Wolfgang Schulz, Product Manager Installed Sound at d&b audiotechnik, states, “We are excited to launch these new OCA enabled amplifiers with features specifically tailored to the integration market. From now on complete installation solutions, from the amplifiers and the OCA enabled R1 Remote control software, to the loudspeakers and the installation mounting hardware, are available from d&b. The foundation for the OCA integration vision is already built into these amplifiers.”

About OCA

OCA (Open Control Architecture) is an open control and monitoring standard for professional audio and AV media network devices. From a single device and controller to networks with almost any number of devices and multiple controllers, OCA provides for powerful, high speed, low cost, robust system control and monitoring of devices from different manufacturers.

OCA can be used in conjunction with any available transport protocol (Dante, AVB, AES67, Cobranet, etc.). Offering interoperability across different media transports and manufacturers’ devices, it enables whole new levels of complex system integration and options as to how and where network devices can be deployed. The architecture operates on commodity Ethernet networking hardware or via standard 802.11 Wi-Fi.

Control functionality allows system professionals to change and monitor all operating parameters of a network device, including the creation and deletion of signal paths, parameter adjustments for signal processing objects, network device firmware updates and management of access control. Control can also be limited to provide simpler ‘operator’ functionality; for instance, providing just level, mute, power on/off and fault indication.

AES project “AESX210” is currently working to render OCA into a ratified AES standard this year.

OCA is not itself a media transport, or a means of programming a network device or system control, or generating a user interface. OCA is available free of charge to manufactures, system integrators and designers, to implement with their own and third party network devices, as they require.
